Low-cost Outfit of the Day (and some dolcetti!)

I was feeling a bit 'country' today so I put on my low-cost flannel shirt from Uniqlo and cheap jeans that I got at a flea market with my low-cost boots from Primark. My earrings were also from a lovely low-cost store called Carina Bijoux. I'm practically low-cost from head to toe!

Oggi mi sentivo un po' 'country' e mi sono messa la camicia di flanella di Uniqlo (azienda Giapponese low-cost), dei jeans che ho comprato al mercatino e dei stivali che ho preso da Primark (azienda Irlandese/Inglese super low-cost). Gli orecchini sono da Carina Bijoux. Tutto low cost,  quindi sono praticamente in saldo! :)

Amaretti–Mascarpone Dessert/Outfit of the Day

Amaretti (Almond Macaroons) and Mascarpone Dessert
Here is an easy peasy treat which you can make under five minutes! You will need:
Ecco una ricettina facile facile che puoi prepare sotto i cinque minuti! Vi serviranno:

300 grams mascarpone (or philadelphia cheese)      300 grammi di mascarpone
80 grams Amaretti                                                  80 grammi di Amaretti
50 grams powdered sugar                                      50 grammi di zucchero a velo
100 grams soft dulce de leche                                100 grammi di dulce de leche
A few chocolate chips                                            Delle gocce di cioccolato
Sliced almonds                                                       Un po' di mandorle sfilettate

Instructions:
Mix the mascarpone cheese with the sugar. Crumble the amaretti/macaroons at the bottom of dessert bowls or glasses. Put a layer of the sweetened mascarpone on the macaroons. Sprinkle the chocolate chips, almonds and a few more amaretti. Lastly, in a pan, heat up the dulce de leche just a little so it softens and pour it on top of the layered dessert.

Mischiate il mascarpone con lo zucchero. Sbriciolate gli amaretti e disponeteli sul fondo delle coppette o bicchieri. Versate uno strato di mascarpone zuccherato sugli amaretti. Guarnite con le mandorle, le gocce di cioccolato e altri amaretti. In una pentola sciogliete un po' di dulce de leche (caramello) e versatelo sopra le coppette.

ELF Mineral Blemish Kit

This mineral powder in 'Sheer' comes with a convenient brush. This does not conceal but it does somewhat lessen any redness. It contains tea tree leaf oil and zinc and I find that it helps mattify troubled/oily areas.

Questo prodotto -polvere minerale contro impurità- viene con un pennello. Non è assolutamente un correttore perché non ha coperto le mie imperfezioni però trovo che attenua il rossore. Contiene olio di tea tree e lo zinco e ho notato che previene la pelle lucida quindi è buona per la pelle grassa.

ELF Shimmer Palette (in Sheer Sunrise)

These have a creamy texture which at first I found greasy but then I noticed they became powdery. The palette contains four shades: white, beige-pink, beige-brown and a lavender- pink which all add a touch of shimmer. These creased heavily on my eyelids but they work very well as highlighters on the brow bone and inner corner of the eyes.

Questi ombretti-highlighter hanno una consistenza cremosa che ho trovato inizialmente untuosa ma poi ho notato che diventano 'polverose' Come potete vedere la palette contiene un shimmer bianco, beige-rosato, beige-marroncino e uno lilla-rosato. Donano un tocco di luce sotto le soppraciglia e nell'angolo interno dell'occhio.

ELF Eyelid Primer

This works really well and helped keep my eyeshadow from disappearing or 'melting' for a while.  I know there are primers out there that are really expensive but this costs 1.70 euros so it's definitely a bargain.

Questa base ombretto funziona benissimo e il mio ombretto è durato più a lungo. So che ci sono altri primer costosissimi ma questo della ELF viene 1.70 euro e funziona (l'ombretto non dura per sempre però sicuramente l'ombretto resta più a lungo sulle palpebre usando questo prodotto).

ELF Plumping Lip Glaze in Baby Doll

If you like mint, this is your lip gloss! The transparent gloss on the left leaves a tingly feeling on the lips and the colored gloss on the right leaves a subtle color and lovely shine on the lips. It costs 1.70 euros and I like this best out of all the products as I find that its consistency flatters the lips.

Se vi piace la menta, questo gloss fa per voi! La base trasparente lascia un senso di freschezza sulle labbra mentre il gloss colorato rende le labbra belle luccicanti. Questo è il mio prodotto preferito fino ad adesso perché rende le labbra più belle e leggermente più piene (sarà l'effetto del gloss...) e poi viene solo 1.70 euro.

Contiene 6 ombretti, 2 rosetti gloss, 2 fard, e un po' di cipria. Devo dire che gli ombretti sono davvero consistenti e durano a lungo!



I used the purple and blue/black eyeshadow as well as both lip colors. Don't mind the pout look! :)

Quì ho usato l'ombretto viola e quello nero/blu e anche entrambi i rossetti. Non fate caso alle smorfie!

Zara dress & Retro bag (& Sfincioni!)

Here is a dress I'm wearing from Zara (18 euros) which I bought a couple of years ago. I put on a black belt which I got at a flea market for a couple of Euros, and the black shoes are from Obsel (15 euros) in Rome.

Ecco un vestito di Zara che mi sono messa. L'ho abbinata con una cintura nera che ho comprato al mercatino e delle scarpe a tacco basso della Obsel da un negozio a Roma.

Here instead is a retro-style bag/purse which I got as a present for Christmas. Isn't it darling?

To end this post on a sweet note, here are some treats (for your eyes only of course!) :) It was Father's Day on Saturday and in Sicily we celebrate it by eating Sfincioni di San Giuseppe; big fried puff pastries filled with sweet ricotta cheese and chocoalte chips,  topped with candied cherry and orange! I bought one for my father...but I ended up eating most of it myself!

Ecco delle delize per i vostri occhi. Siccome sabato era la festa del Papà, ho comprato uno sfincione di San Giuseppe per il mio papà...però alla fine me lo sono mangiato quasi tutto io!







Eyebrows- I like them natural. Sopracciglia- mi piacciono folte.

Yes eyebrows frame the eyes. Though many women like to thin out their eyebrows, I prefer thicker eyebrows and find them more flattering when full. It all depends on what suits your face of course, and heavy eyebrows don't suit every girl, but in my opinion, natural-looking eyebrows are the best. I learned this by making a lot of mistakes...
When I was in middle school, I used to shape my eyebrows, making them super skinny in the front, and leaving them thick at the ends. In High School, I'd over pluck so much that at one point, I'd go around with cube-shaped eyebrows. Can you imagine?? For some bizarre reason, I thought I looked great!

Here is a picture of me with lovely Natasha Bedingfield in 2004 at the MTV awards in Rome. You might not notice from the angle, but my eyebrows are way too plucked from the front.


Lo so che a molte donne piacciono le sopracciglia sottili, è una questione di gusti, ma io le preferisco belle spesse. Certo, ad alcune ragazze le sopracciglia a cespuglio non donano molto, ma secondo me quelle più belle sono quelle al naturale. Questo l'ho imparato facendo molti errori...
Quando ero alle medie, me li toglievo da sola e ne combinavo di tutti i colori! Erano sottili davanti e spesse verso la fine. Poi un certo punto al liceo me li facevo a forma di cubo. Vi immaginate quant'ero bella?? E io che pensavo di essere uno schianto! Eccomi in una foto con la graziosa, Natasha Bedingfield nel 2004 a Roma. Mi toglievo troppe sopracciglia da dove avrebbero dovuto iniziare.

It took me a long time to grow them out, and some parts haven't grown back to their original state but leaving them alone was definitely the right decision.

Mi ci sono voluti anni per farli ricrescere, e ancora oggi non sono ricresciuti al cento percento,  ma ne è valsa la pena.

So my point is, natural is better. I do have to maintain them, to give them some shape, but I follow their natural shape. Due to years of abusing my eyebrows, they haven't grown back neatly; this is why you shouldn't exaggerate with tweezing. Now mine grow back messily so I do have to groom them (otherwise I'd look like a man..) but  personally, bushy eyebrows are beautiful! My advice is: if you have naturally thick eyebrows, DO NOT OVER PLUCK! Follow your natural shape. You don't even need to pluck at all. There are many beautiful women who barely shape their eyebrows; look at Brooke Shields, Camille Belle, Rachel Weisz and Charlotte Casiraghi (granddaughter of Grace Kelly).

Quello che voglio dire è che le sopracciglia naturali sono bellissime! Io me li toglievo 'sbagliate' da anni quindi li ho un po' rovinate, ed è per questo che me li devo mantenere per dargli un po' di forma (e anche perché altrimenti sembrerei un uomo..) però seguo la loro forma originale, naturale. Quindi se avete le sopracciglia belle folte, NON ESAGERATE CON LE PINZETTE! Non dovete neanche necessariamente usarle. Ci sono tante donne bellissime con le sopracciglia spesse. Guardate Brooke Shields, Camille Belle, Rachel Weisz e Charlotte Casiraghi.

Favorite Lip Balm (What's yours?)/ Burrocacao preferito?

Lip balms are the beauty products I use the most, especially during cold weather. Here are several lip balms/lip treatments I use to prevent my lips from chapping.



1) Vaseline. Needless to say, vaseline is excellent for flaky skin. Not only on lips, but on eyebrows, or on any dry areas on the face. I have one with aloe vera -extra moisturizing!- and one with rose and almond oil. The latter one is slightly tinted; it looks bright pink in reality but it just gives your lips a rosier color.

Inutile dire che la vaselina è eccelente per la pelle secca. Si può usare sulle labbra, sulle soppraciglia e su qualsiasi parte del viso per prevenire screpolature. Io ho una confezione con l'aloe vera che lo rende ancora più emmoliente, e un'altra confezione con olio di rosa e olio di mandorla. La prima è trasparente mentre la seconda sembra molto acceso come colore, ma rende le labbra solo leggermente più rosate.

2)The Body Shop's Born Lippy Lip Balm in Pink Guava. This one smells tropical and delicious as it contains guava fruit extract as well as castor oil. It adds a nice shine, but it doesn't last long. It does soften your lips however.

Questo l'ho preso al Body Shop e ha un profumo tropicale, delizioso e contiene estratto di guava, oltre che olio di ricino. Rende le labbra morbide e anche un po' luccicanti.

3)Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula: Dark Chocolate & Peppermint Lip Butter. This one is my favorite. Do I need to say why?:) It reminds me of After Eight chocolate...as well as mint chocolate ice-cream.  It feels smooth like butter, contains vitamin E and it's really refreshing on the lips, thanks to the mint. It's a clear gel and like it says on the product, it adds a 'subtle gloss' too!

Questo burro di cacao/gloss della Palmer's  è il mio preferito ovviamente perché profuma di cioccolato e menta. Sembra di applicare burro sulle labbra, contiene la vitamina E e da una sensazione rinfrescante. E' un gel trasparente e rende le labbra anche leggermente glossy!

4)Labello-Dragon Fruit. Every Italian girl has at least one labello.  This one is slightly tinted; it looks fuchsia but once on the lips, the color is a light pinkish shade. It smells like dragon fruit, though I've never actually smelled dragon fruit (a.k.a pitaya), it does smell...exotic. That's the word! It has a sweet-sour smell, sharper than strawberry. Too bad it isn't edible!

Quale ragazza non possiede almeno un Labello? Questo è al profumo di 'Dragon Fruit' e non so proprio che frutto sia però ha un profumo molto esotico! Il colore di questo burro di cacao sembra quasi fuchsia però una volta sulle labbra non è così evidente; è un colore rosa trasparente molto bello. Ha un profumo dolce-aspro, peccato che non si può mangiare!
